Saving energy means saving money, so it is only natural that you would like to discover some of the ways that your new electric fan will be energy efficient, helpful toward your electric bills, and positive for the environment.  The most expensive energy source is the cost of cooling, and really the only answer is a fan.  A fan is literally the least expensive cooling method.  An average high-powered fan only uses 100 watts of speed compared to an air conditioner which can use anywhere from 500 to 3500 watts; an astounding difference.  Here are some points to keep in mind:

1. Fans are literally the most inexpensive cooling method that exists.

2. A fan placed in a window fans can be used to blow air that is already cooled from the outside into your home.

3. Fans produce continual airflow that can be left on indefinitely, unlike an air conditioner that will need to be turned off at night.

4. Air conditioning can also be improved by the use of a fan to make it more effective and be used less.

5. Fans circulate warm air down in the wintertime to save heat energy.

As far as the environment goes, you may be unaware of how much energy you are wasting without the simple use of a fan.  When you turn on home appliances, even if energy savings has entered your mind, you more than likely are not thinking about pollution, although it exists.   Pollution occurs at power plants either through the running of these nuclear power plants or by burning coal or fuel.  Every time a switch is turned a tiny bit of pollution is created, and obviously adds up.  This is another reason why you should take an interest in your energy use, and the most expensive, the cooling costs.

Here are a few more energy saving tips you may not have thought of along with the use of a fan!:

1.     Install storm windows to keep your warmed or cool air from escaping.  This will keep your home warmer in winter!

2.     Clean chimneys.

3.     Seal all leaks around windows and doors.  Cool air will escape this way otherwise.

4.     Vacuum vents and other spaces.

5.     Replace old windows because many are unaware that their windows are not sufficiently keeping

6.     Add weather stripping where it may be needed to keep out warmth or cool air depending on the season.

7.     Keep shades down or open depending on the season, to either keep sunlight in or out for natural warming or cooling.
